In this session, Karim Farishta, Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the Department of Defense and his colleagues will share career pathways into the Department of Defense as well as share information regarding the opportunities for internships and full-time roles available for undergraduate and graduate students within the department.

U.S. Department of Defense

Karim Farishta serves as the Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). He is the principal advisor regarding the DoD’s interactions with state, local, territorial, and tribal leaders. Karim works with federal interagency partners to deliver federal-state solutions at the intersection of domestic and national security priorities. Previously, he was the Director of Strategic Alliances at The Asian American Foundation (TAAF), spearheading the $1.1 billion philanthropic launch of its national anti-hate and belonging efforts to strengthen community infrastructure. Karim served as a Program Manager at the Obama White House and worked on Vice President Harris’ inauguration team. A Fulbright and Harry S. Truman Scholar, Karim holds a MPP from the Harvard Kennedy School and a B.A. in International Affairs from George Washington University. He is also an Atlantic Council Millennium Fellow and Truman National Security Project Security Fellow.
