About Us
The Bates College Maple Syrup Club aims to foster a connection to place and the natural environment, sharing an important aspect of Maine and New England heritage by learning about and undertaking the process of maple sugaring. The process of making maple syrup is a tool that can connect a diverse group of students from all across the globe with a quintessential part of Maine and the local community. Members will learn from local sugarmakers, the Bates lead arborist, and ultimately participate in our own process of maple sugaring on our very own campus. Members learn to work as a team, with both their minds and hands, learning a trade that connects them to the history of Maine in ways that only sugaring can.
